Saturday 21 March 2015
Two Rivers Urban Park, Observatory
Join the Friends of the Liesbeek for a leisurely stroll along the river followed by a bring-your-own picnic on the lawn near the Wild Fig restaurant.
Walkers will meet at 9am on Saturday 21 March on the grass banks opposite the entrance to Valkenberg Hospital and the Observatory where we will split into two groups, the River Walkers and Bird Walkers. Walkers can park their cars at the parking lot opposite Hartleyvale hockey stadium on Liesbeek Parkway, near the River Club.
The River Walkers will explore the Two Rivers Urban Park wetlands and reedbeds at a leisurely pace, with members of the Friends of the Liesbeek on hand to provide historical context to the area and an overview of the rehabilitation work currently being conducted.
Please join us to learn about an exciting section of the Liesbeek River and an important ecological and social site in Cape Town. We will be discussing the challenges faced in the lower reaches of the Liesbeek and the plans going forward in our efforts to transform this previously neglected land into a functioning wetland with ecological integrity.
All participants are encouraged to pack a picnic for afterwards as families enjoy the environment while discussing important local fresh water issues with the organisers and each other.
The event will conclude by 11pm.
Free of charge!
